About the awarded model

Weighing only 550g (19.4 oz) with a length of just 117.8mm (4.6 in), the Model A036 enables photographers to enjoy the mobility provided by a compact, lightweight, full-frame mirrorless camera in all situations. It delivers superb optical performance, including both outstanding image quality and beautiful background blur effects (bokeh) only possible with a fast aperture, thanks to a new optical system designed specifically for mirrorless cameras. In addition to shooting portraits with creative, defocused backgrounds, photographers can enjoy dynamic wide-angle expressions like never before thanks to a Minimum Object Distance (MOD) of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide-angle zoom setting.

The selection committee members’ reasons for selection

The Model A036 is a product typical of Tamron, which offers lenses with unique attractions that differ from those of camera manufacturers’ genuine accessories. Given its wide end of 28mm, it has an astonishingly compact size for a 35mm full-frame lens with a maximum aperture of F2.8 across the entire zoom range. Delivering great detail rendering to the corners of the image, it exhibits high resolution performance matched with the latest high-resolution sensors. It also produces superb bokeh available solely from large-aperture lenses. With a comfortably portable size, it facilitates artistic expression with its shallow depth of field. Its short minimum focus distance makes it incredibly versatile. It makes users feel like carrying no other lens. On top of that, it is conservatively priced. That makes us feel that it was designed from the users’ standpoint. A wonderfully balanced lens, it may potentially increase the number of users of full-frame mirrorless cameras.
